 Greeting changers:

With the holidays starting this month, please not the change of dates for both our November and December meetings.  Mark your calendars.  We still need volunteers to make phone calls on Tuesday to get out the vote (GOTV).  Please let me know if you have an hour or two to make calls (and where you live so I can put you in touch with your local Democratic organization).

Thanks.

Meg

1.  Vote on Tuesday...

...and get everyone you know out to vote, too.  I hope you vote against the ballot question, for the judges on the Democratic ballot, for Kathy Hampton and Art Haywood (original members of BTCB), and other local candidates who support our cause.  Below is another view of the Cheltenham Charter Amendment.

The Cheltenham Democratic Committee’s opposition to the Charter Amendment on the November 3rd Ballot has nothing to do with the proposed SEPTA Garage at the Jenkintown/Wyncote Train Station.  They are very separate issues.  As written the Charter Referendum poses a grave danger to the Township’s finances, is unconstitutional, and clearly violates Pennsylvania and Federal laws.

The Charter Referendum is a disservice to the many residents who oppose the Garage project.  By advocating an extreme measure “We the People” seeks to separateCheltenham from hundreds of years of constitutional law and gives the appearance of “victory at any cost.”  We believe there are constitutional means to address the Garage issue to the satisfaction of all parties.

The Cheltenham Democratic Committee shares the concerns of the Chamber of Citizens and the residents of Wyncote who oppose the Garage project.  That however, does not mean that the solution is to change the Township Charter, violate Pennsylvania and Federal law and the Constitutions of Pennsylvania and the United States of America.

Bruce Hanes and Steve McCarter, Cheltenham Democratic Committee Co-Chairs

2.  December 16 meeting

The meeting to plan the gala pot luck has been changed to Tuesday November 10 at 6 PM at Cosi.  Connie Brick is the contact person.

3.  Next meeting

Our November 18 meeting on Civil Rights is in the planning process.  If you know of anyone who can speak to the group about Civil Rights, Women's rights, and LGBT rights, please send on their contact information to me.
