October 4, 2009 Daily Information and Musing
Greetings Changers;
I have been gathering a week's worth of news and information in what I hope is a clear, concise format. There are 6 major topics in large font for easier reading. Anna's fundraiser was a sight to see. Thanks for everyone who contributed and/or came.
Thanks.
Meg
1. Health Care:
The next 5 - 6 weeks will be major in the health care forum. Senator Casey has said that the members of congress have been getting the emails and petitions and especially the phone calls concerning the populist position on the public policy. Please, keep those phone calls coming (for information about how to contact your congress people, visit our web site http//www.bethechangebaederwood.com ). If you have friends outside of our area (especially in blue dog democrat states), please ask them to contact their congress people to express the strong desire for a public option. Let me know if you have done this and which states.
Last night's 60 minutes had a fascinating, scary story about coal ash. Check this out and let me know what you think. http://www.cbsnews.com/video/watch/?id=5362297n&tag=contentMain;cbsCarousel
Thanks.
2. Environment:
Right on the heels of health care in the President's agenda is the environment. The world conference on energy is in Copenhagen in December. While you are making the health care calls, express your concern for global warming and the need for strong legislation to curb it drastically. Our children need a planet to live on.
3. Steering Committee:
Please let me know if you are interested in joining the steering committee. We meet the second Wednesday of the month at my house from 7 - 9 PM. Come join us on the 14th.
4. Come to the Movies this Thursday at the Hiway.
5. The Sunday Opinion Section of the New York Times was fascinating. If you want to read some editorials, http://www.nytimes.com/opinion/, I especially like Frank Rich and Nicholas Kristoff.
6. Afghanistan
