 Greetings Changers:

Isn't that amazing about Obama winning the Nobel Peace Prize?  He still gives me hope which we all really need.  I have lots of news to report.  I have seven items, one of which is bound to interest you.

Thanks.

Meg

1.  First Suburbs
I went to the first suburbs movie at the Hiway on Thursday night and the documentaries were fascinating.  The idea was that the first ring of suburbs which began in the 1900's and expanded greatly after World War II have been in the decline (as we have noticed driving around Abington, Cheltenham, Jenkintown, and Springfield) because of the expanding suburbs getting tax breaks and federal and state money to develop.  The project has worked for other areas where the states and federal government give more money to re-develop the infrastructure of these first suburbs (which is breaking down).  The second documentary was about integration within the first suburbs.  Rather than "white flight", the idea is to bring all ethnic groups together to revitalize these first suburbs AND to bring all ethnicities into the governing/decision making process.  I know that there is a group developing to address these issues and we will hear more about them.  Here is the web site to learn more:  http://www.bullfrogfilms.com/catalog/nm.html

2.  Nicholas Kristoff (one of my favorite writers) had an excellent article in Thursday's New York Times.  (http://www.nytimes.com/2009/10/08/opinion/08kristof.html).   He is also coming to the Cheltenham Adult School this month and as of last report, there are still tickets (http://www.cheltenhamadultschool.org/).  Will I see you there?  Let me know.

3.  Steering Committee
We will have a steering committee meeting this Wednesday October 14 at my house.  This meeting is open to anyone who is interested in joining the steering committee.  Please RSVP to me and I will send directions.

4.  October 28 is our next meeting at the Elkins Estate at 7 PM.  We are having local candidates who are running in this November's election (don't forget to mark you calendar to vote November 3).  That includes judges, township commissioners, and whoever else wants to speak.  Please RSVP to me if you are running and want to be on the agenda.

5.  Serius radio (did I spell it correctly?) has a station totally about American politics.  It is called POTUS.  If you get serius or XM, check it out.

6.  Health Care
Add your name to the petition  to Harry Reid.
We need to get from 39,000 to 50,000 signatures before we deliver the petitions.
Can you add your name today? Click here to see the petition and the Maddow video.

7.  Party time:

 It's a PARTY at  Creek Side Co-op
