Friedman eloquently explains how Obama could use this moment to finally get on board with development of non-oil industry – to get this country behind a policy which will help our economy and help the cause of peace in the world. http://www.nytimes.com/2010/05/19/opinion/19friedman.html?ref=opinion

There is a new law being proposed in Philly to make all Promoters (the people that put on shows) get a license for *every* show that they put on. Now, this may not be a big deal to a place like the Electric Factory or the TLA, which can (a) afford to purchase these and (b) afford people on their staff to get new licenses for every show (it is a time consuming process). However, for smaller promoters who put on local bands' shows at high schools, church basements, etc, will be forced out of the business. Philadelphia will completely stop growing as a music hub, crushing a lot of the inspiration and performance art that younger Philadelphians are building. A petition has been started to fight this, and is spreading throughout the industry (especially among youths and our artists, labels, clothing companies, and other similar brands). I know this doesn't have much to do with you, but I thought I'd let you know that kids are fighting for things they want, there's just a small amount of things we're willing to fight for.
