Please remember to vote in the primary May 18.

1. Here is a letter from a Cheltenham Resident.

President Obama, the Democratic Senate Election Committee and Organizing for America (the grassroots group that I joined to support Obama’s candidacy) all made a deal with the devil to support Senator Arlen Specter in the Pennsylvania Democratic Senate primary. These people do not speak for me and I hope that they do not speak for you. Senator Specter’s over 40-year Republican career speaks for itself. He is not a friend of Democrats and he is not a friend of progressive ideas.

When the Philadelphia Inquirer quizzically endorsed Mr. Specter on April 25th I responded with a letter to the editor that was published on April 29, 2010. My letter stated:

I found the Inquirer’s endorsement of Arlen Specter as “Democrats’ best bet” curious. I have followed Inquirer editorials for quite some time. Whenever critical of politicians at a local, state or national level the editorials usually conclude with the comment “business as usual.” I think such a description best describes Senator Specter. He is a long-term Republican politician. Along with the vast majority of his colleagues he voted for the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act that removed many existing controls of the financial industry and the result was Wall Street abuse of consumers and investors. As a Republican senator he rarely opposed Bush administration policies that have substantially contributed to many of the problems America is dealing with today. In typical political fashion, facing a likely Republican primary loss, Mr. Specter had an epiphany and became a Democrat. If re-elected Mr. Specter would be 86 years at the end of his next term. Congressman Joe Sestak’s illustrious military career and outstanding record as a two-term Democratic congressman offers Pennsylvanians a clear alternative to Senator Specter’s business as usual. Sestak is the Democrats’ best bet.

Joe Sestak has surpassed Arlen Specter in the polls. The polls indicate that Congressman Sestak has a better chance than Senator Specter to beat Republican Pat Toomey in the general election. I hope that you will join me on May 18, 2010 and vote for Joe Sestak.

Stephen

3. It’s time that we the people tell congress that the lobbying system is not for the people and therefore neither is a congress which makes decisions based on this system. http://link.email.washingtonpost.com/r/VP6EHT/D7FU1/ULHH63/R05IXM/BQONA/GX/h
