DFA Announces Sestak Endorsement

On Sunday, May 2, in front of the former Baederwood Campaign for Change office, Kevin Shaw of Montgomery County Democracy for America made the public announcement of the DFA national organization's endorsement of Joe Sestak for the US Senate. MontcoDFA had endorsed Congressman Sestak back in January. We were joined by about 100 stalwart folks that braved 90° heat to let President Obama know that we appreciate all his hard work, but we won't be voting for Arlen. Below the photos is the letter from DFA's chairman Jim Dean about why Joe Sestak was selected.

Dear Kevin,

As you know we have decided to endorse and support Congressman Joe Sestak in his primary for the Democratic nomination for US Senate in Pennsylvania.

We are very thankful to you and all the DFA members in Pennsylvania for all of your hard work on his campaign, and for keeping the DFA staff in Burlington focused on the great progress that Congressman Sestak's campaign is making.

It is indisputable that 2010 is the year that the Democrats must demonstrate to the voters that we are the party that gets things done, and that we are the party that empowers and embraces the competition for solutions and ideas. I can think of no candidate who exemplifes this effort better than Congressman Joe Sestak. His commitment to ethics reform in goverment, health care reform, opportunities for working families and much more has pointed the way forward for Pennsylvania and the rest of the country. We desperately need this kind of leadership in the United States Senate, and we need it now.

The voters want things done and are not interested in the kind of incumbancy protection measures that have taken up way too much space as we try to shape a better future.  Please extend our thanks to the Congressman and to all of our members for taking up this cause.  We are very honored to be part of his campaign and look forward to doing whatever we can to support your efforts and the Congressman's campaign as we go through these final weeks to victory!

With warm regards,
--

Democracy for America has over one million members across the country and supports socially progressive and fiscally responsible candidates for all levels of elected office. This is accomplished through financial and logistical support for endorsed candidates and through a nationwide training program where candidates and activists can learn the skills they'll need to run effective campaigns.
